Do you really know what goes into your food? Did you know that if you consumed an apple you would be eating over 30 pesticides, even after you have washed it? Also don't forget about the anti-biotics and hormones that cattle and poultry are force fed. What happens to those chemicals when the animal dies? It is digested and stored in human bodies.
Everybody wants to be healthy. It can be accomplished by conduct a healthy life style, includes eating healthy food. “We are what we eat.” If we eat nutritious food, we’ll get a healthy body. Thus, we must be able to choose the right food. The question then will be what kind of food is good for us? Organic food is the answer. Organic food defines as crops and animals which are produced and fed with natural food and without the use of chemical additives. In this term, I want to discuss about the advantage of consuming organic food, why organic food is better for us.
First of all, organic food is free of pesticide. I’m sure that all of you must be know about the harm of pesticide residue to our body. In long term, residue of pesticide can cause cancer, genetic mutation, neuron system disorder, obesity and some birth defects. Almost 1,4 million cancer case in the world caused by pesticide. According to UK Agricultural Department, 93% of non-organic oranges analyzed contained pesticide residues, 78% of apples analyzed contained pesticide residues, 43% of all fruit and vegetables analyzed had detectable levels of pesticides, 50% of lettuce contained residues from 7 or more chemical, 71% of cereal bars with residues, 83% of oily fish showed pesticide residues. Organic food can reduce the bad effect of pesticide and other poisonous chemical to our body as it is free or contain less chemical residue.
Secondly, organic food contains more nutrition than inorganic ones, so it is healthier. Logically, it means that organic food helps growth and regeneration died cells better than inorganic food. The quality of food has definitely gone down since the Second World War. For instance, the levels of vitamin C in today’s fruit much less than it were found in wartime fruit. You will have to eat more fruit nowadays to make up the deficiency, but unfortunately that means eating more chemicals. An experiment shows that organic food contain higher vitamin C, (and perhaps iron and magnesium), and contain less unwanted and potentially toxic nitrates.
The last one is, the organic food is more taste than the inorganic ones. FAO reported that organic apples were firmer and received higher taste scores than inorganically grown apples. Another study showed that organic tomatoes were sweeter and organic carrots had more "carrot taste". It proves that, at least for some foods, the organic form can taste better than the inorganic ones.
